A “critical facility” includes any of the following. Flying within 500 ft horizontal or 250 ft vertical without the owner’s written consent is a misdemeanor:
• Petroleum refinery
• Petroleum or chemical production, transportation, storage, or processing facility
• Chemical manufacturing facility
• Pipeline and any appurtenance thereto
• Wastewater treatment facility
• Water treatment facility
• Mine (as defined in NRS 512.006)
• Power generating station, plant, or substation and any appurtenances thereto
• Any transmission line owned in whole or in part by an electric utility (or by the Colorado River Commission of Nevada)
• County, city, or town jail or detention facility
• Any prison, facility, or institution under the control of the Department of Corrections
Exclusion: The term does not include any facility or infrastructure of a utility that is located underground.
Carson City examples: Local water/wastewater plants, power substations, major transmission lines, and the Carson City jail/detention facility.
Carson City does not have a broad local drone ordinance beyond state and federal rules. Key local points:
• Carson City Airport (KCXP) is uncontrolled. Operations within 5 miles require airport consent in addition to any FAA authorization.
• Submit a written email request to the airport at least 3 business days prior to the proposed flight.
• Contact: manager@flycarsoncity.com
• Carry all authorization documents during the flight.
• City parks: Check with Parks & Recreation; use designated areas only (e.g., Pony Express Airpark has designated pads).
• Private property: Always obtain owner permission for takeoff and landing.
Safety Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy
Recon Sierra reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any flight or service due to safety concerns. This includes, but is not limited to, adverse
weather, high winds, low visibility, airspace restrictions, equipment issues, or any other condition that could compromise safe drone operations.
In such cases, the client will be notified as soon as practicable. The service will be rescheduled at no additional charge (any previously incurred
travel fees may still apply). Safety always comes first.
